Foodies Guide to The New Forest

There are a great number of things we love about The New Forest, but the selection of fine foods on offer has to be one of the best. Whether it’s eating out, visiting local farm shops and markets, or having the Heathfield caters come to you, one thing is certain: you and your guests won’t be going hungry. We’ve put together a few of our favourite places to eat out when staying on The Heathfield Estate:

In nearby Brockenhurst, the PIG is quickly making a name for itself as a must-visit foodie destination. Their ‘25 mile menu’ is based on locally-sourced produce and many ingredients are gathered from their own kitchen garden, which you can walk around and admire.

The Three Tuns

An award-winning traditional 17th-century inn, The Three Tuns is Egon Ronay recognised. It boasts ten wines by the glass, five cask ales, and changing daily specials inspired by the local area. Views from the terrace show off the best of the open countryside.

The Jetty

Overlooking the glorious Christchurch Harbour and just a short drive away from Heathfield House, The Jetty is headed up by renowned local chef Alex Aitken. The restaurant was described by the Sunday Telegraph as “both sophisticated and fun, the food is excellent yet approachable and the setting is magical.” We couldn’t agree more!

The Noisy Lobster

If you fancy a beach-side location, The Noisy Lobster on Mudeford’s Avon Beach is a more informal place to eat. This family-run restaurant has fantastic views over the Isle of Wight. Head chef Steve Hall has created a menu inspired by the coast: Mussels Mariniere, Traditionally Dressed Crab, and an ever-changing Catch of the Day.

The Kitchen at Chewton Glen

‘The Kitchen’ by James Martin is a favourite amongst locals and visitors alike. The open plan design connects diners with the surrounding kitchen garden where you can see the ingredients being picked and cookery classes being conducted. The informal layout inside allows you to watch the chefs at work on tapas-style grazing dishes, wood-fired pizzas, gourmet burgers and superfood salads. And don’t even get us started on the puddings!
